Fort Hood is enormous. Your housing search should be a little more specific.

Killeen, Harker Heights, Copperas Cove, Belton, Temple, and the smaller communities around them solve very different problems. The right place to begin depends on how you weigh gate access, space, errands, housing age, and the life you want away from post.

How this worksite changes the search

Build the map around the life you will actually live.

We use measured route snapshots plus Census housing and EPA built-environment data. Useful? Very much absolutely. A substitute for checking a real address? Nope. See exactly how the model works.

Start with the gate reality

Killeen, Harker Heights, and Copperas Cove are common close-in searches, but the useful route depends on the gate and on-post destination you actually use.

Separate close from convenient

A short post route and easy access to the broader Temple–Belton service corridor are not always the same choice.

Let distance buy something

Belton, Temple, Gatesville, Salado, or Lampasas should enter the comparison because their setting fits—not because a no-traffic map makes the drive look harmless.

Your prioritiesStart

First comparisons

Places worth putting on your map.

Central / North Killeen

The closest city-oriented starting point, with mixed housing ages and broad day-to-day services.

South Killeen

A distinct southern search with newer-home pockets, suburban growth, and different routes toward post.

Harker Heights

An established suburban search east of Killeen with broad retail access and its own housing pattern.

Copperas Cove

A west-side small-city comparison with established neighborhoods and a distinct gate-access pattern.

Nolanville

A smaller east-side search with suburban growth and access to the broader Killeen–Temple corridor.

Belton

An established small-city comparison with a recognizable center, lake access, and regional conveniences.

Temple

A full-service regional city with healthcare employment, established neighborhoods, newer growth, and a longer drive.

Salado

A historic small-town comparison when character and pace justify a more traffic-sensitive commute.

Gatesville

A lower-prominence north-side option for households deliberately trading convenience for separation or space.

Lampasas

A lower-prominence farther-west option with an independent town center, rural edges, and a substantial gate-dependent drive.

These are places to investigate, not endorsements or promises. Once a real property enters the chat, check the price, availability, route, condition, utilities, HOA obligations, and every other detail that can change the answer.

Before you search

The questions we’d want answered first.

What areas should I compare first near Fort Hood?

Start with Killeen, Harker Heights, and Copperas Cove for closer access, then compare Nolanville, Belton, Temple, Salado, Gatesville, or Lampasas when setting and everyday-life priorities justify more distance.

Does the Fort Hood match use my unit or gate?

Not yet. The first market package uses the Bernie Beck Main Gate/Marvin Leath Visitor Center as one consistent route reference. Always test the actual address against the gate and on-post destination you will use.

Does the match use current homes for sale or rent?

No. It identifies a geographic starting point. Availability, price, property condition, utilities, and HOA terms require a current property-level search.
